I recently (first time) visted the city of Pointe Noire in the Republic of Congo(Brazzaville). They have a Hotel there, The Victory Palace. Tony, I'm a big fan of yours and have eaten(well), cooked(not so well) and drunk(very well) for many years. The French trained Gabonese chef there was MAGNIFICENT!!!! and the wine list (10-15 pages ) included a 1997 Chateau D"Yquem and a '99 Chateau Petrus. You have to go there and meet the chef.

Hi Anthony!

Every week your show inspires me to travel and to try new foods and experiences. After watching your show last night, my wife and I thought you should visit Savannah, Georgia. We are native Floridians who are absolutely in love with Savannah. The restaurants are wonderful, the people are friendly and the city is full of esentric characters. Please consider visiting our favorite city, but before you go make sure to read "Miidnight in the garden of good and evil" by John Berendt and also watch the movie. Hey maybe Mr. Berendt can join you for a tour of his adoptive city. Thank you for educating us on food and travel....

noctambulare Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur; Jalan Alor 0 Feb 24 2008, 1:05 AM EST by noctambulare

I am lucky to have been a traveler of interesting food much of my life. Starting with my Icelandic grandmother and her clam fritters and lighter than air desserts. Followed by my wife who is from a Japanese farm family and their "no rules" versions of holiday cooking. But Chef Bordain's no fear attitude greatly contributed to a recent business trip to Malaysia.

While certainly eating at Hakka, a pan-asian style open air restaurant just off of KLCC, was a very good experience, it was not even close to the food cruising at Jalan Alor. The group I was with could not get reservations at Bijan (which turned out to be a white boy safe zone for Malay food anyway), so we decided to hit Jalan Alor. the catalyst for this move was after I had gotten hawker food on Petaling street, members of the group were impressed by the vibrant flavor and by the fact that I was not immediately ill (pretty safe cha siu and some certainly less safe rice noodle filled with winter melon threads and spicy shrimp paste).

Our night at Jalan Alor was filled with bbq duck and port, chicken and rice, lamb-chicken-beef satay, chicken wing bbq, funn noodles with a seafood medley, kong pao frog porridge, copious Tiger beers. The capper was getting some fresh durian on the street - only two of the four of us would try it, and I was the only one who really enjoyed it - my other friend who at least tried semi-yakked in the street - LOL!

The next day when I went to the Chow Kit wet market, I felt a real appreciation for those who had supplied, those who had shopped and those who had cooked some really amazing food. And was grateful to Chef Bourdain for giving me the courage to step out of my comfort zone and eat meals which I will always remember with great joy.

Will post the infamous Durian episode to youtube as soon as possible.

So anyone visiting Malaysia, blow off the fancy restaurants and fully enjoy great malay cooking at Jalan Alor.
