If this whole 'No Reservations' thing doesn't fly, Tony needs to consider "International Wedding Crashers" -- The writing was fantastic, the gift-buying segment was great and it's apparent -- Tony, you were lit, my friend. And as others mentioned, the whole massage scene was unforgettable. Great show! Thanks!

I'm working on my taxes and can't stop laughing watching the "Uzbekistan" episode.Tony and Zmir make a great team. Humor, lifestyles and tradition, what wonderful way to discover other cultures. Great job!

I'm just watching the "Uzbekistan" episode on my DVR and "Oh my God, the message scene was the funniest ever and Tony's comments were just hysterical. I mean I wouldn't go through that for million bucks, he's just a good sport. I really enjoy this show, I just started watching it this year. Thanks Tony for the laughs!!!

I am a new viewer of the show. Finally a program that has content. The Korean episode was so moving, the program is not just about food, it is about life, in the world. Showing we are all so much alike, in family, feelings, and wanting for own futures. Keep up the work, who ever had the idea for this show deserves a big raise.

well i've been watching this show for awhile now and thought all the places tony has traveled to has been very educational in all aspects, but this one to korea seemed "boring" to tony, and probably to any other korean that watched this show. i was pretty excited for tony to finally go to my mother land, but got dissapointed at the end.is that all the fun you could have shown, nari? tony~ next time go in the winter and try out the outdoor spas.

Jung's Criticism of the Episode

Although Nari tried to show Tony as many aspects possible in modern Korean society, I feel that the destinations were not really appropriate. Almost all the destinations would have been great to someone her age, Tony does not fit there. No rae bang (i.e. Karaoke), as much as I love them myself, isn't even of Korean origin. Instead of going to Kukkiwon (the center of Tae Kwon Do), he is taken to kiddie dojo (they were undoubtably good, but still). We had Kimchee, Maeuntang, and some street food and family food, but what about all the other food? Why was Tony deprived of anything past teenage delights? No wonder he didn't feel enthusiastic about the whole experience.

Why wasn't he given a chance to even glipse at the long, toiling, yet ever so delicate preparation of Sul Lung Tang broth? What about Han Jung Sik and Gu Cheop Ban Sang, where a table of meal with 9 dishes are presented (only for Kings during the older times)? Gu Jeol pan? Fermented Skates? Gajami Sik-hae (cured flounder with radishes)? All these ancient and culturally distinctive dishes tell a tale. barbequed pork/chicken/beef with soju tells us a lot, but is that all of Korea? What happened to everything else? All the other wonders that each tell a story that's different from the other.

There's nothing fundemantally NOT Korean about the episode. In fact, as a 23 year old who is going back home in a few months, will probably make the same trip and eat the same food, which I have been doing every time I go back home. I'll have fun, just as Nari had fun. But did the show really represent Korean gastronomy and culture? Did it really go outside the usual cliche of barbeque and karaoke and all the Asian stereotype? Did we really see Tony being involved with History and culture?

Understandably, not every trip has to be some sort of enlightment experience for Tony as Columbia was, or a staple favorite like Vietnam. Nevertheless, I strongly feel that the episode was lackluster in diversity and content. I don't believe hitting popular young people spots is a good way to respresent Korean gastronomy. It sure is important, but not the whole story. He just misssed out on so much due to wasting time on pretty much the same stuff over and over. We KNOW Koreans like to barbeque stuff over charcoal and drink soju. We get it. Maybe Sun-ji Soup for hangovers? Prized oysters from the South Sea, which most of it get imported to US and Japan? Perhaps participate in a Ban-seung, meal-sharing in a buddhist temple? Even dduk boki, the red rice-cake stuff seen at the beginning of the show, has its street version (the one on the show) and the refined version.

Should Tony ever visit Korea against (whether for business or personal), he would enjoy it a lot more by avoiding Seoul altogether except for the few fine dining spots (like Byuk-je Gal Bi restaurant), then hit the road elsewhere. Away from the neon signs, away from all the Bangs, maybe follow the road through the ginko and chestnut trees and find what's truly in store in Korea.

And by the way, Dak Ddong Jib is NOT chicken anus. It's the gizzard which is not that outlandish in Asia at all and it's nowhere close to the coloquial functions of the bird. But we all understood that before, right?

All in all, I don't think Tony got the appropriate view of Korea. The gastronomy wasn't appropriately presented, nor the culture outside of the megaurban province-and-city of Seoul. Nari may have had her fun, but Tony might need a different guide for his next trip there.

I Have friends in New Jersey that I plan to visit one of this days, but seeing how it looks like on the show it doesn't make me feel excited to go there.

I enjoyed the show show on NJ. I do not, however, think that anyone who has not experienced New Jersey can appreciate it. A person has to really know the places in Jersey like Perth Amboy, Elizabeth, Woodbridge, Edison, Carteret, Seaside Heights, and (gasp) Newark to fully understand any message attached to the episode on the Garden State. The message I took away from the show was, "Some parts of it ain't pretty, but it's still standing."

Tony, I know that you can't stand the thought of life without pork fat, I myself have attempted the less-meaty way of living and have failed. But I am telling you, there is this hostel on the Aran Islands, off the west coast of Ireland, owned by a man originally from, I believe it is Western Africa, and every night he offers his patrons one of the most delicious meals I have ever had, and, duh duh DUH!, it is vegan. Yes, I know, very skeptical, but this man is amazing. He will walk into the kitchen 10-15 minutes before dinnertime and serve up a giant and gorgeous meal. Next time you go to Ireland I beg you to go against your set in stone rules about food and try it out. I don't know the name, but residents will know what you are talking about. Love the show!!

Living in Bantry, Co. COrk in Ireland and seeing Tony when he was in the COrk and Bandon area. The Snug Restaurant in Bantry is a good local town eateary when the portions are always good. O'Connors Seafood restaurant is also a good place for a bite to eat.

A JAPANESE STIR FRY

My favorite dish I often enjoy is nabe [nah'-beh]: Japanese for "soup" or "stew". It's so easy & versitile. I don't really have a recipe; I just throw things together. So feel free to experiment with this; changing it according to your tastes or the volume you need.

#First I start the rice. The Japanese prefer the white short-grained variety. If you don't have rice cooker, cook it a double-boiler system for 20 minutes. Or if you prefer, prepare noodles (ramen, soben, udon, etc.). That's good too.

#In a large pan, I saute' garlic, onions, & bell pepper in olive oil over medium heat. Other vegetables can be added; such as broccholi, mushrooms, bamboo shoot, mung bean sprouts, cabbage, green bean, zucchini, or whatever else you enjoy. Then I add diced chicken, beef, or pork. You vegetarians can leave this part out. If you prefer seafood, such as shrimp or scallops, add these during the last 10 minutes of cooking. Next, I add a mixture of equal parts lemon juice & soy sauce; usually 1 tbs each, but you can increase these if cooking for more than 2 people. I add about a half tsp each of ground ginger & red pepper flakes or black pepper. Add more if you like it really spicey. After stirring this thoroughly, I cover the pan & let simmer on low for 20 minutes.

#In a bowl, I scoop a helping of rice or noodle, then spoon the nabe over it. Sake or green tea go well with it.

COMBINE AND SET ASIDE:

1/4 C OF ABSOLUT MANDRIN VODKA
(1 T SUGAR OPTIONAL)
2-4 T FRESH MANDRIN ORANGE JUICE ( TO TASTE)

MIX THE FOLLOWING SPICES TOGETHER ON A PLATE:

1/4 CUP OF SEASONED FLOUR
1TSP OF FINELY GRATED FRESH MANDARIN ORANGE ZEST
2TSP LEMON PEPPER
1 TSP OLD BAY CRAB SEASONING
1/2 TSP OF FRESH CRUSHED CORIANDER SEED
PINCH OF SUGAR
ADDITIONAL SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE

DREDGE THE CRABS IN SEASONED FLOUR AND SET ASIDE...

PLACE IN HOT SKILLET:

2 -3 TB OF HOT SUNFLOWER OIL
1 T HOT MONGOLIAN FIRE OIL
1 T BUTTER

THE SEASONED CRABS

.... SLOWLY ADD SCANT AMOUNTS OF THE MANDARIN VODKA
1/4 CUP OF ABSOLUT MANDARIN TO KEEP THE CRABS HOT AND MOIST...COVER LIGHTLY WITH A SCREEN TO PROTECT FROM HOT SPATTERS....FRY UNTIL THE CLAWS AND BODY ARE REALLY CRISP....

THIS MANDRIN ABSOLUT VODKA IS GREAT WITH SHRIMP AND SHRIMP JAMBALAYA DISHES.........

Sift:
1Cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup of the darkest cocoa you can find. Hershey's Extra Dark will do if you can't get Callebaut.

Cream together until fluffy:
2/3 cup butter (NOT margarine, NOT shortening)
1 1/2 cups lightly packed brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla (or liqueur)

Mix in dry ingredients alternately with 1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk. Cake method.

Add a bag (11 1/2 oz.)of Ghirardelli (sp?) 60% bittersweet chocolate chips.

These are drop cookies, the size is up to you, but bake in a 350 degree oven for 10-15 minutes depending on the size of the cookies. Even if you use a nonstick baking sheet, they can stick. I butter and flour the pans, then loosen cookies while they're still pretty warm - within 10 minutes of coming out of the oven. Beware, they can spread.

Now, these are more of a chocolate caramel thing than anything else. If you wanted to serve them with ice cream as part of a desert, I would make them small and press a few large salt crystals into the tops while they're still warm. They're lovely with a cinnamon sorbetto, too.

Tony received the traditional "drive down the freeway while being shot at" shortly thereafter. Enamoured fans were overheard saying, "Wow - who knew he could run so fast!" and, "He's not a bad shot, overall."

Local law enforcement was quoted as saying, "We knew he was good and welcomed when he started acting like Goofy on crack."

Dish not to miss: The pastrami. Have the sweet mustard with it. Don't miss the bakery, either.

Canter's bakery is amazing, leave with something...anything. You'll be thanking me the following morning. Canter's also has the Kibitz Room, where you can see local bands on some evenings.

Description: Go on a Friday or Saturday night and experience the Thai Elvis impersonator on stage while you dine on items from the 'Wild Things' section of the menu. This is a fun place to take out-of-town visitors.

Dish not to miss: Spicy Raw Beef, Spicey Raw Shrimp, Spicy Raw Crab...it's all about raw at Palms. The chillis will make you cry, so I highly suggest a side of sliced cucumbers to cool the burning pallete. A bottle of Singha never hurts either, but don't expect that alone to quell the fires.

Description: My husband and I live around the corner from this classic Italian osteria. The cuisine is authentic, the ambiance reminds me of the osterias in Rome, and the owner/chefs are actually Italian! It's a rare thing in this part of the country.

Great openings: the bread basket with a tomato dipping spread is just delicious, and it's all uphill from there!
